Vertiefung und Entwicklung der Cébron-Methode

The word “Tradition” could find a new meaning only when added to the word “Evolution”.  As Gustav Mahler said, “Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.

The Cébron method is a technical and theoretical foundation that gives an infinite possibility of research and interpretation. What Jean Cébron (1927 – 2019) teached, along with the laws and variations of movement, allows to discover new eccentric rhythms of movement. The Cébron’s Études are one of the results of the processes of analysis and development of the movement material of Sigurd Leeder, which were created through the method “Variations on theme”.

Olimpia Scardi is compelled to share her years of experience in this field. She has inherited a lot of historical material and original films about the Études of Prof. Jean Cébron, collaborating with him for ten years. he team consider extremely valuable to study this material in order to renew together this special knowledge of dance and to pass it on to future generations. The goal is also to give a new meaning to this historical heritage in today’s reality, having the opportunity to understand the Cébron method and developing new research strategies for dance and choreography.

This theoretical-practical research focused on the following main topics: technical basics of Cébron Études (space, design, weight, rhythm, dynamics); improvisation tasks for an efficient body awareness and a developed imagination skill; elements from somatic methods; new research topics that spontaneously came out during the study process.
